Explaining League of Legends Ranked system

You’ve just maxed out the level cap on League of Legends, unlocked all the Summoner Spells, and used your IP to get a bunch of champions. Your friends have gone offline and you have some time to kill before going to bed. What are you going to do?

Load up Ranked Mode and start climbing— that’s what.

If you are new to Ranked, it can be somewhat confusing at first. With so many different tiers and divisions to climb, it can be hard for new players to understand how everything works.

So here’s everything you need to know.

What is ranked and how do I access it?

Ranked is League of Legends’ competitive game mode that pits teams of five players against each other.

Ranked is only available to players that have maxed out their level to level 30 and own at least 20 different champions.

When a player first plays ranked, they will be put into one of 10 placement games which determine their initial rank. The more games you win during your placement, the better chances you have of starting in a high rank like Silver or Gold.

By continuously winning games, a player can keep advancing up the ranked ladder.

What are the ranks?

The current ranks in League of Legends from lowest to highest are as follows.

  • Unranked
  • Bronze
  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Platinum
  • Diamond
  • Master
  • Challenger

What are divisions?

Each separate rank has five divisions apart from Master and Challenger, which are only limited to one. The divisions start from five and end in one. Five is the lowest division in a rank and one is the highest.

How do I climb divisions and ranks?

As players win games in Ranked, they gain League Points, also more commonly known as LP. Upon reaching 100 total LP in a given division, players enter a promotion series to try and get to the next available division.

Players must win a majority of their games in order to advance to the next division. Promotion to divisions four to one usually require two out of three wins to proceed. When players are trying to advance up to a new rank, Silver one to Gold five, for example, they must win three out of five games to advance up a division.

If a player doesn’t win that amount of games, then they will need to get back to 100 LP to try again.

If a player continuously loses games, they also run to risk of eventually dropping back down to zero LP. In this case, a player could be demoted to the division below them unless they can win some matches again.

How is LP determined?

LP is determined on your Match Making Rating, or MMR for short. It is a hidden number that represents a player’s skill. This number is different from your actual ranking. Riot uses it as a way to determine how much LP you should gain or lose.

The bigger the MMR, the more LP points you gain. The more you win, in theory, the more you gain. The more you lose, the less you gain when you do finally win a match.

You can check your MMR with this officially website OP.gg.

What happens if I rage quit or dodge?

If you are in a promotion match and leave the lobby before the game can go into the match, the system will automatically place a loss into your tally regardless of the reason.

If you leave games continuously, you could face bans for future games for a certain period of time or indefinitely depending on how much you dodge or quit a game before its resolution.

Some tips to advance in ranked

try to be a good player, when you play with the others players try to play with them as a team, go away when you feel rage, try to play with your friends, when you losing more than four games stop play ranked game and take break for some days then back and playing again, don’t blame the others players when you loosed games.

And remember a good knowledge about League of Legends and more skills is also meaning more Victories in game. Good luck all.
