Astralis advances to Berlin Major finals to face an unusual finalist
After defeating Liquid yesterday, the Danish team seems determined to hold the fourth major title of its career and enter history from its widest doors, but an unusual opponent will be the final hurdle in the CS: GO Berlin Major final tomorrow.
We are talking about the CIS dark horse of this tournament, AVANGAR, which proved to be a significant force through the Berlin Major all the way to the semi-finals where they were able to defeat Renegades with relative ease, thanks to the impressive performance of Dzhami “Jame” Ali and his colleagues on the maps of Mirage and Dust II.
While Mirage seemed close to the two teams, Dust II was the decisive saying for AVANGAR, who managed to score 10 consecutive rounds on the T side and lose just one round on CT, ending the match with a big 16-6 score to qualify for tomorrow’s final.
Going back to the Danish team, Astralis also managed a clean 2-0 win over NRG in the other semi-final, showing a performance we had longed to see reminiscent of the best moments of 2018.
The start was with Train map, in which Nicolai “device” Reedtz shined brightly by stealing the limelight in the first handgun round with 1v3 Clutch, but Andreas “Xyp9x” Hojsleth was by no means the best player here with a 24 kills finish to lead his team towards a victory with a score of 16-10.
Although NRG caused some trouble for Danish players in several moments throughout the game, Overpass map brought with it a similar result in overall dominance with Astralis achieving seven consecutive rounds in the first half. As the second half came, it was too late for the opposing team, who suffered a 16-9 loss despite superb efforts by Vincent “Brehze” Cayonte with 29 Kills.
So AVANGARS against Astralis. Will the CIS team score the second win for their region in the history of Major tournaments, or will the more experienced team, who could enter history, win the fourth major championship led by Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander? We’ll know that tomorrow with the final at 7pm KSA.
