Battle Royale fever continues with Paladins: Battlegrounds announcement
Just when you thought that Paladins, the Free-to-play hero shooter, has came out of its Overwatch comparisons shadow
Hi-Rez studio had announced yesterday a new mode under the name of Paladins: Battlegrounds, which is exactly what you’d think it is, during Hi-Rez Expo 2018. That’s right, we’re talking PUBG-like Battle Royale.
The new mode pits 100 players against each other in a huge map that’s “300 times” the size of the usual Paladins map, where they scavenge for loot and gear to defeat other players. The main difference here from the you-know-which-game is that it’s mandatory to be in squads, and it’s in First Person view.
As for the reason “Battlegrounds” was chosen as a name. Developers defended their choice by saying it reminds them of classic MMO, where players gather up and go on a raid in different classes. That didn’t get to us, obviously, as it’s clearly a marketing trick to take advantage of PUBG’s name weight.
Paladins isn’t the first game to adopt a similar mode, however, as Warface, Fortnite, GTA V and even CS: GO are implementing similar aspects to their games, not counting hundreds of unofficial games on smartphones.
