PUBG surpasses Dota 2 with most concurrent players on Steam

After becoming the third game to reach 800,000 concurrent players on Steam earlier this week, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has now topped Dota 2 in becoming the game with the most players in 24 hours.

Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene himself tweeted an image showing that 877,844 players were in the battlegrounds at one time, beating out Dota 2’s player count of 842,919. With these numbers, PUBG now also holds the record for the second-highest concurrent player count of all time, as it passed Counter-Strike: Global Offensive  and stands behind only Dota 2’s record of nearly 1.3 million players in March 2016.

Dota 2 has long been at the top of concurrent players on Steam, as it is the most-played game on the platform every day. PUBG isn’t even released yet, so expect more numbers once it’s officially launched out of Early Access by the end of the year.

We saw PUBG’s first esports LAN event this week at Gamescom where Luminosity Gaming won Squad competition, Cloud9 at FPS Duo, and the Korean player “Evermore” at Solo. Prizes were divided between the winners of the total $350,000 pool.
