Capcom Pro Tour returns to the Middle East with Geek Weekend

We were almost certain a few weeks ago that players of the region were left out in the cold from competing at Capcom Cup, as the sole planned Pro Tour event to be had at GAMES16 was cancelled with the expo’s cancellation. However, Capcom is bringing the event back just in time at Geek Weekend, Dubai.

GAMES, Dubai’s annual gaming convention was originally scheduled to hold the Pro Tour event. On Aug. 30 organizers postponed the convention until 2017, citing an unfavorable game release schedule as the reason. The announcement effectively cancelled the event’s Pro Tour tournament.

The move left Capcom with little time to find a replacement. GAMES16 was part of the Pro Tour’s European region, so its replacement had to take place before the European regional final at Milan Games Week on October 15 and 16. Now, it’ll be on Geek Weekend October 6-7.

In other news the Capcom Cup-related DLC have added over $92,000 to the event’s prize pool. The content, first announced at Evo, will be available through late-November with “a minimum of 30% of the revenue” going to the Capcom Cup prize pool. The winner of the Capcom Cup is currently slated to take home over $164,000, which will be the largest prize in fighting game history. Winner will also be able to help design a costume for a character of their choice.
