Esports players may soon become athletes in France

It looks like the future of French Esports players is on the line, with the French government proposing a new bill to recognize esports and players after several months of criticism and refusal of recognizing it as a real sport.

Digital Republic bill asks to safeguard organization of competitions, clarify the status of Esports players and help advancing esports scene in France. The cause of many problems between the government and Esports is centered around the fact that it’s the same legal framework as Gambling, which is illegal in France.

If the bill passes this means that we’ll be seeing more and more French Esports recognition and professional players who would classify as athletes, benefiting from all of the real sports perks.
