Evil Geniuses eliminated at the second day of The International 7 playoffs

The International 7 event saw its biggest upset yet, as the second day of Playoffs’ matches concluded and with it the dreams of one of the best teams in the world.

Four best-of-three series were played earlier today. LGD Forever Young were able to move past TNC in the first match, but the remaining games had some unexpected results. The main squad of LGD were defeated in two rapid games by Virtus Pro, while Team Liquid and Team Secret also fought a vicious three-game series against each other with Liquid keeping their dreams alive at the end of the battle.

While the three previous series were certainly surprising on their own, none of them came close to the final match of the day between Evil Geniuses and underdogs Team Empire. Despite playing with a stand-in, underdogs Empire brought the North American favorites down in two straight, marathon-length games. Empire were able to eek out two extremely close victories against Evil Geniuses, with stand-in Roman “Resolut1on” Fominok and Rostislav “fn” Lozovoi catching fire. The two players racked up a total of 57 kills between them, which was more than Evil Geniuses were able to achieve throughout the overall series.

The success of Empire is in itself now one of the major storylines of The International 7. The tournament is shaping up to be very unexpected this year, as we’ll definitely see a new name becoming the champion at the end of it.
