Fnatic finds its happy ending and wins DreamHack Masters Malmo 2019

The Cinderella tale that Fnatic started at his homeland event in DreamHack Masters Malmö seems to be coming to a happy ending, after an impressive performance against the French superteam Vitality.

Despite the great plays of “shox”, “ZywOo” and the rest of the French team, it was the Swedes who managed to keep the prize in their country with a fiery finale at DreamHack Masters Malmö. The challenge went on for three full matches through Dust II, Inferno and Mirage, where the two teams exchanged blows, providing unstoppable excitement to the audience who continued to cheer and encourage Fnatic to win this evening.

Cedric “RpK” Guipouy was the highlight of Dust map as the Frenchman was one of the most important Vitality soldiers with 24 Kills towards the final 16-14 score, as the 30-year-old continued to prove that age was not an obstacle. Although the Fnatic players were never bad and almost equalized, the map was decided for the French side.

However, Dust II was not even the start of the real competition. At Inferno, the victory seemed to be at stake for the Swedish players who were forced to do what they could to stay in the competition. And indeed, for the third game in a row, “JW”,  “KRMIZ” and co proved that their new squad is perhaps the most enduring in CS: GO’s history with yet another tiring Overtime. They managed to break from a draw and eventually win the map 19-16.

The French team did not seem ready to surrender and, in fact, almost went home with the Grand Prix thanks to a near perfect performance across the first half of the Mirage map with dominance of the score to 11-4, but the second half was when everything changed. Thanks to the Fnatic stars, namely “KRIMZ” and later the legendary Clutch of “Brollan” in the last round using CZ, the team managed to hold the precious Dreamhack Masters award with a comeback that ended at 16-13 to announce that the beloved team has returned to the front of CS: GO again.

The new win is astonishing given that both Maikil “Golden” Selim and Robin “flusha” Ronnquist joined the squad just 20 days ago, and their return seems to have had a positive impact on the rest of the players who are looking to stay the same in the upcoming tournaments, according to “JW”.

Vitality wasn’t lacking at all either. The team has shown an impressive performance that has been contributed to by the recent addition of Richard “shox” Papillon to the squad, along with Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut, the MVP of the tournament, in a formidable duo across the tournament. With the defeat of Astralis and Team Liquid earlier in DreamHack Masters Malmo, it seems that we are beginning to see a return to the unexpected and ruthless CS: GO competitions that don’t pay respect to any legends.
