Manchester City signs with one of the best FIFA players in the world

It’s not uncommon these days to see a popular football club sign with electronic athletes. Manchester City, the English megahouse, has signed with one of the best FIFA players to join its eSports roster

Despite not being the first FIFA player to join the club, FIFA 18 PS4 world champion Kai “Deto” Wollin is the biggest deal so far. The 29-year-old German was the overall runner up at the FIFA Interactive World Cup – taking home a respectable $40,000 (£29k) in prize money. He is also a multi-time German Champion and won the World Cyber Games in both 2011 and 2012. Despite his experience and success in tournaments, this is the first football club or organisation he has joined.

Deto says he thinks he’s made the right decision: ‘I waited a long time to find the right place for me and I have a feeling that waiting was worth it. I am incredibly proud to be a part of this amazing club. I’m extremely happy to be stepping into the next chapter of my esports career with Manchester City and at such an exciting time for esports. I will give this honorable club all I have to offer, beginning with the next FUT Champs Cup!’

He won’t have far to go for the next FUT Championships tournament as it is being held in Manchester from April 13-15 with a massive prize pool of $200,000. Deto is City’s second esports signing in recent times after fellow PlayStation player Marcus ‘ExpectSporting’ Jorgensen signed with the club in December. However, this signing also means the departure of Manchester City’s first ever esports player, Kirean ‘Kez’ Brown, who revealed he isn’t enjoying the game anymore and needs to take a rest.
