New Twitch feature transforms it to a social media website

A new social feature is to be added to Twitch very soon to all users. It will make the world’s most famous streaming website almost as Social Media as Facebook and other websites.

This new feature is called “Friends” and it was announced at PAX East this Friday. The new service allows users to add 500 friends so they can see when they’re online and send them Whispers messages with one click.

Friends comes as a new step to make Twitch more powerful and stream-lovers favorite place, especially alongside Channel Feed and Whispers features.

“Twitch has always been a great platform for broadcasters to connect with viewers, now viewers will be able to connect with each other too. Because the community continues to flock to features that help create real connections, as exemplified by the 300 million whispers sent just since launch, we are continuing to make this a key focus.”

No release date was provided, but invites for the beta started rolling to select community members so expect news soon.
