New Vodafone tournament featuring PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9 announced

The latest Vodafone partnership with ESL will bring us a new Smartphone tournament in PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9 games, but with an interesting twist

The new tournament will be unique for a number of reasons, most importantly the new 5G technology, which will be present at the finals for the first time in any competitive event in the world. The competition will also feature a total of $184,000 in prizes, a number we rarely see in smartphones esports events.

The Vodafone 5G ESL Mobile Open will have three months of qualifiers which will end up with the finals being in the Milan Games Week in Italy on 29-29 September. Participation is available to a number of countries including Qatar and Egypt from the Arab world.

“Together with Vodafone, we are bringing some of the top mobile games to a truly competitive esports format, building a bridge between hardcore esports enthusiasts and casual gamers,” said ESL CEO Ralf Reichert. “We believe in the rise of mobile esports and are thrilled to work with such an amazing partner as Vodafone on this program as they launch 5G across their markets internationally.”

The goal of the finals using the 5G technology is to showcase the potential of the new network to players around the world, featuring high speeds and low-latency connectivity allowing unprecedented levels of gaming through smartphones.

As for the qualifiers, Asphalt 9: Legends will have eight online weekly cups from players inside the game, as well as local qualifiers at the upcoming ESL events in Birmingham and Cologne as well as Gamescom and Milan Games Week.

For its part, the PUBG Mobile qualifiers will be held through ESL Play in the form of three monthly trophies starting in June. The top 10 teams from each cup will qualify for the finals in Italy.
