PUBG Global Invitational EU qualifiers become more exciting with an ESL partnership
If the $2 million dollars prize pool wasn’t enough to get the pros of EU interested, a new partnership with ESL is here to ensure the highest level of tournament organization possible in the grandest PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds event yet
The new deal sees ESL organizing the PUBG Global Invitational -or PGI for short- all the way to its main event in UK July 29, where the best teams will compete for a spot in the main event that’s being held in July as well as their share of the $100,000 qualifiers prize pool.
“We are thrilled to find the best PUBG squads in Europe to compete in Berlin at our first truly global esports undertaking, PGI 2018,” Alex Nam, Head of EMEA Business at PUBG Corp, said in the announcement. “We can’t wait for the community to be part this process with us at every step along the way.”
ESL will be hosting up to 320 different European teams in one of the biggest qualifying events for the PGI 2018 tournament. Only three spots are up for grabs, however, so only the best will be able to make it to the main event in Berlin. Phase two of the qualifying round is currently underway with the final 320 teams scheduled to compete from May 19 to 27 until only the 20 remain.
The top 20 teams after the qualifying event comes to a close will head to the Haymarket Theatre in Leicester, U.K. from June 29 to July 1, playing fifteen matches across the three days. The three teams that qualify will go up against the best teams in the world in Berlin from Just 25 to 29 to try and compete for the $2,000,000 prize pool on offer.
Tickets for the event will go live starting May 19 at 11am BST from the Haymarket Theatre website. The theatre only has enough capacity for 900 spectators, so be sure to act fast if you want to see some of the best European PUBG teams perform live on stage. Most of the matches are being broadcast on ESL’s PUBG Twitch channel as well.
