Riot Games announces League World Championship prize pool update

Riot Games has revealed just how much money the Season 6 World Championship prize pool currently has, which apparently now stands at $5,070,000.

Over 50% of that prize has been contributed by fans.
Unlike Valve’s DotA 2’s compendium, for League of Legends the digital merchandise in question was a Championship skin for a Ward and the champion Zed. While the last three World Championships have had prize pools of just over $2million, this year Riot took a page out of Valve’s book, crowd funding a portion of the prize through related digital sales.

The pool isn’t finalised yet and sales of the Championship skins will continue to add to it through to November 6th, at which point a final prize pool will be announced. The prize distribution will be as follows:

1st – 40%
2nd – 15%
3rd/4th – 7.5% each
5th-8th – 4% each
9th-12th – 2.25% each
13th-16th – 1.25% each
