Saudi Arabia and UAE new VAT laws change gaming prices

Today’s news is necessary and important to all video game lovers in the UAE. There has been an adjustment to gaming prices due to new VAT laws.

 

You should be willing to pay more for video games or  it’s devices, either through digital online stores or through regular stores, wanting copies on standard discs.

For example purchasing on Steam for example will see you pay an increase of upwards 14-15%, On console Apparently you can’t circumvent this, you’ll have to pay VAT on checkout.

When it comes to buying a  physical copy, a standard edition AAA console title is priced at $60, which retails in the UAE with an added cost of AED 269, Sharaf DG and Virgin Megastore now have priced the game at AED 314 and 319 respectively, At those prices for physical console copies, you’ll be paying upwards to 19% on standard editions, limited edition items will be more expensive.

On the consoles itself on the other hand, the Xbox One X, retailed at Virgin Megastore at AED 1899. It’s now priced at AED 1999.

The new VAT laws have been applied since 1 January, in both UAE and Saudi Arabia.
