Virtus.Pro beats world’s best team at Epicenter and advances to semi-finals

After two days of great performances, Virtus.Pro awoke from its slumber and staged one of the biggest upsets at EPICENTER.

Since making it to the grand finals of the ELEAGUE Major back in January, the legendary Polish roster hadn’t achieved any notable results, with disappointing finishes in both offline and online competitions. However, despite their consistent decline over the past six months, Virtus Pro advanced past the group stage of EPICENTE. After losing to SK Gaming in their opening series of the group stage, the Polish guys took down Valve Major champions Gambit. Now, VP eliminated FaZe Clan in the final match, the team widely considered to be the best in the world right now.

Virtus Pro suffered a devastating 16-2 loss on the opening map Mirage, but then managed to defeat FaZe Clan on both Cobblestone and Inferno. Although the Poles were able to end Cobblestone with a rather comfortable scoreline of 16-11, the deciding map was not that simple. After a good 11-4 opening CT half, FaZe answered back against by winning the second pistol round and began to come closer to Virtus Pro’s scoreline. Despite Faze scoring nine rounds throughout the half, however, Virtus Pro’s early lead paid off. The polish roster ended the map with a 16-13 and eliminated FaZe.

The last team to advance to the semi-finals was Denmark’s Astralis, after eliminating their fellow countrymen North from the event thanks to Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz and co.

The stage is set for the semifinals, as Astralis will face SK Gaming. Virtus Pro will be going against French side G2 Esports.
