Wings Gaming enters Guinness World Records with biggest prize money won in Esports history
This group of young men would have never thought that in two years of pro gaming they would be where they are now, winning the largest prize in the history of competitive Esports. The five men roster of Wings Gaming were honored today by Guinness World Records as the team with the most money won in Esports history, after they came on top at the recent Dota 2’s The International 6.
Guinness official website released an official story announcing that Wings Gaming has been certified with a World Record for winning $9,139,002 at The International, and they will be listed in the upcoming Guinness World Records 2017 Gamer’s Edition book.
Wings Gaming is now one of the best teams in the world after having defeated former champions Evil Geniuses at semi-finals and Digital Chaos in the finals. It is amazing to see such achievement done in such a short time as the team was recently formed in 2014, only to come this year winning both ESL One Manilla for a $100,000 prize and The International 6.
“It was our dream. The recognition of Guinness World Records is an extraordinary encouragement to us as it could introduce us to more people, and introduce eSports to more people.”
“Wings Gaming’s achievements are nothing short of extraordinary. They are a relatively new team, yet have won one of the most prestigious tournaments in the eSports calendar in style. As for the International itself the tournament’s huge prize pool illustrates how huge eSports has become, and highlights the innovative ways in which some of these incredible competitions are funded. For both gamers and fans alike, it’s extremely exciting,” Stephen Daultrey, Editor of Guinness World Records 2017 Gamer’s Edition commented.
