This guy avoided having his UFC match stream shut down by pretending to play a video game

If you’ve ever searched for a sports match to watch online, you’re probably familiar with streams being taken down by broadcast rights holders soon after being found out. However, this guy right here found a loophole no one ever thought of

Twitch follows the rules closely inprohibiting live-streaming television programming, particularly pay-per-view sports events, as they don’t want trouble from the rights holders. Doing a similar stream can get a streamer punished for copyright violation. But this one guy found a way to go around it and getting away with it.

Meet A.J. Lester, Lester_Gaming Twitch channel owner who streamed UFC 218 on Saturday night by pretending he was playing a UFC video game. The fact EA Sports’ UFC 3 is currently in an open beta no doubt helped with his disguise. Graphics got really good nowadays, and it’s not uncommon for people to mistake them for the real deal.

Lester ducked and moved like he’s actually playing the match, which was in this case between José Aldo and Max Holloway, the featherweight champion. (Holloway won.)

Lester followed up with a stream where he played Fortnite and discussed his viral fame. He appeared unconcerned with any punishment coming from Twitch, which he says has not attempted to contact him, but he still deleted the archived video of the fight.
