League World Championship prize now sets at $4 million thanks to fans contribution

Following several controversies in the last number of weeks we saw Riot Games vowing to give more care to the competitive side of League of Legends, starting with letting the fans contribute to the prize pool of the World championship this year. And indeed, fans managed to support the decision by raising more than $4 million dollars, double the original prize.

With the group stage conclusion and quarterfinals in sight, Riot revealed that the prize pool for League World Championship now sets at $4 million up from the original $2.1. It is correct that Dota 2 is still miles ahead as it gathered $20 million for this year’s International, but we have to remember that this is the first Worlds to ever get Riot’s new treatment.

Instead of piling said sales figures on top of the tournament’s prize pool, however, the amount contributed by fans will instead be distributed according to the following breakdown.

  1. 1st place: 40 percent
  2. 2nd place: 15 percent
  3. 3rd/4th place: 7.5 percent (15 percent total)
  4. 5th-8th place: 4 percent (16 percent total)
  5. 9th-12th place: 2.25 percent (9 percent total)
  6. 13th-16th place: 1.25 percent (5 percent total)
