Newbee finally get their revenge on Team Liquid at ESL One Genting grand final

Chinese Dota 2 team Newbee proves their worth once more, this time defeating the very first team which prevented them from winning The International 7 finals last year

ESL One Genting grand final was an epic matchup—one that brought out the best in both teams. Each game was unbelievably high-level, which is exactly what you’d expect from a similar clash.

The match lasted five games, with each side trading wins up until the final map. But it was Newbee who came out on top, thanks to their superb drafting, execution, and teamwork. It took a huge amount of effort for them to win, given that Liquid are still the best team in the world—but for Song “Sccc” Chun and the rest of his teammates, the struggle probably made their revenge so much sweeter.

This result reaffirms Newbee’s position as the No. 1 team in China and perhaps all of Asia, removing any thoughts of them getting worse after TI7. The awards for Newbee include $160,000 in prize money, as well as 200 more points toward their campaign for TI8 later this year. Liquid will leave Malaysia with half as much money, and 120 points. Team Secret, EG will receive $40,000 and 40 qualification points.
