One Counter-Strike scammer is facing jail time in Denmark

Online scamming is something we’ve always heard about everywhere. From Emails to Video Games, as long as it exists online there’s a possibility that someone might come steal it. Even though it’s considered actual theft since many online items cause money, we still don’t have definitive actual punishment for scammers.. until now.

One scammer fell into the hands of justice in Denmark after scamming two players one of them had items worth $230 in his Steam account. Both of the victims went on to report to the police who immediately caught the accused guy who then was trialed in the court, where he was found guilty after the concept of online items was explained to the judge. The scammer is now facing a 30 day jail time and 40 hours of community service and paying 750$ to the victims.

One of the victims, Nicolai “Nille” Pedersen, outlined his experience of getting scammed, filing a police report, and showing up at court to Gaming.dk. Earlier this year, he attempted to sell a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive knife and found a buyer who offered about $230. The buyer claimed he paid with a bank transfer that’d go through on Monday, as it was the weekend, but when Monday came no money went through, and the buyer promptly blocked Pedersen. So he filed a police report.

Skin trading and skin betting is a massive business. Fans bet over $1.8 million in skins on a recent match in ELEAGUE. It’s inevitable that even small cases like this one receive a closer eye from the justice system.
