Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 new Blackout map released, mode goes free for a month
In a clear challenge to Apex Legends, Black Ops 4’s excellent Battle Royale mode, Blackout, is going free to play with the launch of the new Blackout map today
Activision showed us how a Battle Royale mode may look like in the world of the popular FPS franchise by introducing Blackout, A new mode that combines the fast and smooth gameplay of the Black Ops series with the survival aspects introduced by PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds two years ago, with a number of new additions that made Black Ops 4 version feel fresh enough.
It all seemed to be an ideal recipe for the best Battle Royale game to date, but one problem stood in the way of its anticipated fame. Unlike rival titles like Fortnite, PUBG and the recently released APEX Legends, Blackout was not available cheaply let alone for free. In order to try out Blackout, you will have to purchase CoD: Black Ops 4 costing you over $40 in most cases. Today, Activision seems to be experimenting with what we all have been waiting for by converting Blackout into a free game for at least a few weeks.
That’s right, during April we will have the opportunity to play the Battle Royal mode for free with the launch of its new Alcatraz map, which offers exciting high-speed battles across its small space. As PUBG Corp did with the release of its famous Sahnok map, Alcatraz map shares the same goal of providing the close quarters experience, putting players in a smaller, more dense map, alongside a “down but not out” ruleset that allows team members to respawn and return to the match as long as one member of the team is alive.
The new map will be available to PS4 players starting today, while PC and Xbox One players will have to wait until later. However, Blackout will be completely free for all platforms starting now and until April 30, so make sure to head over to your corresponding platform store and start downloading to test the game many consider as Apex Legends direct competitor.
