Team Secret steals hearts at the first day of DOTA 2 Kuala Lumpur Major

The Kuala Lumpur Major kicked off earlier today as the first DOTA 2 major event of new season 2018-2019.

There are 16 teams competing in the first Major of the 2018-19 Dota Pro Circuit. Each group is made up of four teams, which equals out to four groups with four teams in each.

Group A consists of Team Secret, paiN Gaming, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and J.Storm.
Group B is Evil Geniuses, Vici Gaming, TNC Predator, and Team Aster.
Group C has LGD Gaming, Fnatic, Gambit Esports, and Tigers.
Lastly, Group D hosts Virtus Pro, Forward Gaming, paiN X, and Alliance.

The group stage will last two days, with all four teams playing best-of-three matches with the other teams in their group. The top two teams from each group will move into the Upper Bracket while the others drop into Lower Bracket before playoffs begin—no eliminations will take place until playoffs.

Group A:

Group A opened up play with Team Secret facing off against J Storm. Secret were heavily favored in their group heading into the tournament, and their first appearance looked promising. Team Secret defeated J Storm squad with 2-0, that’s win helps team Secret to take their place in the Winner’s Match to decide the top position in the main event.

The second series was a highly anticipated showdown between Ninjas in Pyjamas and paiN Gaming, though it never lived up to the expectations. in this series Ninjas in Pyjamas beat paiN Gaming with 2-0 too, and Both games lasted just over 41 minutes. That set the stage for NiP to meet Secret in the Winner’s Match for their group. Secret continued to look unstoppable early on in this event as they dismantled NiP in another 2-0 series. Secret was locked into the Upper Bracket for the main event and NiP dropped to the Decider Match.

On the other hand, paiN gaming defeated Storm at the losers match, and this series ended with Storm being the first member of the Lower Bracket. The final bought of Group A had NiP and paiN fighting to see who would end up in what bracket for the main event. at the end of the day Nip defeated paiN to set in the second seed of the Upper Bracket alongside Secret and paiN joined Storm in the Lower Bracket.

Group B:

Group B opened up play with Evil Geniuses against Team Aster, and at the end of this series EG defeated Team Aster with 2-1. The second game featured Vici Gaming taking on TNC Predator to see who would face EG in the winners match. Vici came away with a 2-0 victory despite the close battles, but then they ran into a wall in the winners match. EG continued to look stellar as they made quick work of Vici in two games. And that’s win allowed EG to secure a top seed in the upper bracket.

Down in the losers match, Aster had a much tougher time against TNC. Aster defeated TNC with 2-1, this win sent the Filipino team into the lower bracket while Aster faced Vici to see who would join EG in the upper bracket. in this series Vici secured their win and upper bracket positioning for the next stage of the event after beat Aster with 2-1 at the last fight of the day.
